Haul: Shopping Small + Local

Hello again!

I did a bit of shopping over Christmas break so today I’m going to share what I got! Everything I got is from a local store and/or a small business so if you live in the front range area you should definitely check out the shops I mention. This is kind of random but when you are shopping, what do you consider as counting as local? I think for food the rule is that if it’s raised/grown within 400 miles of where it’s sold , or if it’s in the same state it’s considered local. I like shopping at my the local businesses in my town and I also really enjoy finding the local shops and restaurants whenever I travel because I’ve found that that is a really good way to get to know a town and its culture and it feels like a treasure hunt when I look for restaurants that are unique to the area I’m visiting.

The first place where I bought stuff was a store called the Rocky Mountain Soap Market. Oh my goodness this place is so fun. They have tons of freshly made bath bombs and bar soaps and bath salts and such things. I got the Lavender Charcoal soap and three bath bombs. The one pictures is the scent cool fresh aloe and the other two which I have already used were winter wonderland and oatmeal milk + honey. The winter wonderland was a really fun scent and turned my bath bright blue but the glitter in it got EVERYWHERE and it was super hard to wash off which I wasn’t a fan of. The oatmeal milk + honey scent wasn’t as strong but it was super relaxing. They have two locations in Downtown Colorado Springs and the Shops at Belmar in Lakewood and the also have an online store. I really want to try their Colorful Colorado soap!

These super cute boot cuffs are from a boutique called Halo. They had tons of cute accessories and I was absolutely obsessed with their Christmas tops. They had one that was a flowy tunic with a reindeer head outlined in sequins, I kind of wish I’d gotten it but I always feel kind of hesitant about getting stuff like that, how many Christmas sweaters and tops do I really need and am really going to wear 30 times? They also had some super cute beanies that I think literally every other girl in my town has except for me so I might need to pick one up and join the club.

After looking online I realized that this Savory Spice isn’t really local but it was super cute and smelled AMAZING. I bought some garam masala for an indian inspired recipe I really like making and a kit to make another indian inspired recipe that I remembered from when I volunteered at a living history site near my home.

I was unsuccessful this year at finding some of my favorite holiday teas from Celestial Seasonings so I went ahead and ordered them and took the opportunity to stock up on some of my other favorites. It isn’t pictured but I really love their english breakfast tea from the estate line. It’s not the very best english breakfast I’ve ever had but its certified fair trade and organic and the fact that it’s in a tea bag is really convenient for early mornings before class. I also love the fast lane tea. It’s super caffienated and really yummy so I drink it before my really early (meaning 8am, I’m not a morning person) classes so I don’t fall asleep while driving to class. The Celestial Seasonings factory is in Boulder, CO and if you ever visit Colorado it is a super fun experience to tour the factory I posted about it in my post Colorado Travel Guide: The Celestial Seasonings Tea Factory.

I’m about to run out of my *simply shea facial emollient which I use as a moisturizer at night so I ordered more from *MadeOn and I also got a tinted lip balm in the color *Crimson Rose. It’s such a nice shade for every day. It doesn’t look like I’m wearing a lip color it just makes my lips look more vibrant and its really moisturizing so I reapply throughout the day.

I’m not sure that these really count as local but both of these companies are based in Colorado so I say they count. These are two of my go-to snacks during the semester. On a really busy day I can eat a just larabar for lunch and be fine until dinner time and the Almond butter packets are really nice with an apple if I slice it beforehand and just squeeze the nut butter onto the slices. I also eat both of these while hiking. I even eat the nut butter plain and it a super convenient and light weight option for longer day hikes when I want food that will carry me for a long time but won’t take a lot of space in my pack and be heavy. These are the kind of snacks I would take when climbing a fourteener.

I hope you enjoyed this post! If you did, I would love it if you commented and subscribed!

Ulta and Target Haul

Hello everyone!

I picked up a few things from Ulta, Target, and MadeOn last week and now I’m sharing them with you.

Confession time, the moisturizer I talked about from MadeOn in this post was actually my mom’s. I finally went to their webiste and bought my own and it arrived a few days ago. I also bought my favorite lip balm that is made by them. It moisturizes my lips so well and other lip products work really well on top of it. You can get both of them *here.

My second stop was Target.

I bought two of Burt’s Bees new lipstick line in the shades Fuschia Flood and Blush Basin. They are not crazy pigmented but they last a really long time and are very moisturizing.

Here are some swatches.

There is currently a *swagbucks coupon available for these lipsticks.

I decided to try out the Revlon Colorstay foundation. I bought the shade 150 Buff and so far it seems like a good color match. You can find it here.

I also bought another Rimmel Stay Matte translucent powder because I recently hit pan on my current one. You can find it here.

My last stop was at Ulta. This was my first time in Ulta and it was kind of overwhelming! I bought some things that I’ve been wanting to try out and some things that I’ve been running low on and wanted to get a new one of.

Daily chlorine exposure has wreaked havoc on my hair and I’ve been on the hunt for a deep conditioner that will moisturize without weighing my hair down or making it greasy. This mask smells amazing, like coconut and strawberries. One use in it seems to work pretty well. You can find it here. The price I paid in store was lower than the one listed online so if you buy it I would recommend checking your brick and mortar store first.

I’ve been using the e.l.f. BB cream and it turns my face into a greasy mess so I have been trying to use it up while looking for another one that will work better. I wish that I could have bought a lighter shade but they were out of stock and this one is a decent match. It’s on Ulta’s website here.

I wear a lot of pink lipstick so I picked up a lipliner to wear underneath them. This one is from Rimmel in the shade Indian Pink. It looks really nice under the fuschia Burt’s Bees lip stick. Here is what it looks like on my skin.

You can find it here.

This last purchase was purely for fun. I’ve been wanting to try out a makeup sponge and didn’t want to spend the money for a Beauty Blender. I don’t wear foundation every day so I haven’t tried it out yet but when I do I’ll post my impressions. You can find it here.

Fall Haul

Happy Fall everyone! Today I have a small haul for you from a couple of shopping trips in the last week.

My first purchases were from Bath and Body Works. I have been eyeing their city themed three-wick candles for a while and I had a really hard time deciding which one I wanted because they all smell amazing. I decided on the London Tea and Lemon one. I also bought the Frosted Cranberry and Pumpkin Apple mini candles. Last, I picked up a bottle of the Warm Vanilla Sugar body was. It’s the most wonderful scent for a cozy bubble bath on a cold day.

My next stop was G.H. Bass which is a store that I haven’t been into before but I really liked it. I bought two pairs of earrings, a pair of cute hoops and some simple sparkly ones.

My last purchase I picked up while running some errands. I have heard Jessica from JamBeauty89 on Youtube rave about Maybelline’s color whisper in this shade for a long time so I decided to try it out. It is a really beautiful pale pink that I think is perfect for everyday.

Have a great day!

elf Haul!

A week or so ago, Elf had 40% off their entire website so I ordered some products that I had either been eyeing for a while or loved and was running out of.

The first product I ordered was the Essential Flawless Eyeshadow quad in Beautiful Browns. You can find it here.

While I like all of the shadows in this palette, I LOVE the second one, marked lid. It is the perfect all over shade for the days when I want a really simple eye look. It is also perfect for filling in my brows when I don’t want them to be super dark. The darkest shade, marked line is also really great for smudging underneath the lower lashline.

The second product was the Mad for Matte eyeshadow palette. You can find it here.

This palette is absolutely beautiful. I loved the range of colors. I didn’t get swatches of the shadows yet but I will post a review with swatches soon.

I also bought the Mist and Set spray. You can find it here.

I haven’t used a setting spray before so when I thought I would try this one out when it was on sale. My school is holding their homecoming dance at the end of this week so I am going to put this to the test to see if it can stand up to a night of dancing.

Next I bought three of the studio line brushes, the ultimate blending brush, the large stipple brush, and the small stipple brush. You can find them herehere, and here.

The brushes are so soft.

Look at these bristles.

I can’t wait to try these out.

Last but not least, I bought the studio pout perfecter gloss, and two of the matte lip colors in wine and hot commodity. You can find them here, and here.

The matte lip colors are like a lip pencil that twists up but they are very creamy.

In one end there is a sharpener to keep a nice point on the lip colors so that you can also use them as a lip liner.

Here are some swatches

The pout perfecter had some very visible glitter and it looked like when the gloss wore off it left the glitter.  Not the best but I think it would work pretty well in the center of the lip to make it more three dimensional.

Have a great day!
