Fashion Friday: How to Look Cute for Those 8ams (Even when you woke up at 7:40)

Happy Friday!

I always tell myself that I’m not going to sign up for another 8am and then every semester it seems like I end up in one. I live off campus so it can be hard to put any effort in when I have to be up and out the door that early in the morning. I’m usually guilty of just throwing a new tshirt or a hoodie on over the leggings I slept in and calling it good. Just because you’re putting in minimal effort doesn’t mean you can’t look cute or make a statement though. Instead of a shirt that you got from school or a club try a shirt with a cute floral detail like this one or fun sleeves. They are just as comfy and look way more put together.

I also love tshirts that support a cause I care about this one from Everlane donates to Equality Now and is made super ethically. Girl Set Free and My Sister are working to fight human trafficking and make adorable tees like this one and this one.

The tee I’m wearing is from Mercy House Global and I love that it is supporting maternity houses to young mothers in Kenya.

Also I’m ridiculously happy that this shirt matches my chacos so there’s that.

What’s your default 8am outfit? Tell me in the comments!

Dorm Decor Ideas with Printiki

Happy Monday and happy back to school season!

I just started my sophomore year of college and my first semester at a four-year college. I live really close to my school so I’m still living at home but I wanted to add some new touches to my room to still have some of the fun of decorating a dorm. It was almost more fun because I don’t have to share with anyone.

These prints from Printiki are aboslutely adorable. I love the look of polaroid photos but have never wanted to spend the money on a new camera and especially not on all the film. With Printiki I can print polaroid style photos that I’ve already taken with my phone and camera.

IMG_2363

I got the retro square M prints.

IMG_2361

I decided to string some twine along some shelves I have and have the prints with some little silver clothespins this way it will be super easy to add new prints or change them out. I think it would also look really cute to arrange them on wall to make a sort of gallery wall.

IMG_2362

I used little nails to hang my twine up but you could also use command hooks or a little bit of masking tape if you need something that won’t put holes in the wall.

If you decide to order the prints use the code CEJRQ9KW * to get free shipping if you are a first-time customer to printiki!

Fashion Friday: Fall Flannel

Now that Labor Day has come and gone it is unofficially the fall time so I have been pulling out my flannels and dreaming about my ankle boots. For this outfit I paired a flannel tunic with some cuffed shorts because I might think its fall but the weather thinks otherwise. For shoes I wore my black converse.

Fashion Friday: Ivory Ella

I recently bought a shirt from Ivory Ella. I’ve only worn it once so far but I’m already falling in love with it so I decided to share my review of the shirt and the company with you all. Ivory Ella is  a U.S. based company that was founded in April of last year. They donate 10% of their net profits to Save the Elephants and occaisionally create specific products and donate to other organziations from the sale of those products. I didn’t see any information on their website about their manufacturing and production policies so that it something that I would like to find out more about for this company.

IvoryElla2.JPG

I ordered the Neon Coral Campus Long Sleeve shirt. It was a much brighter color in person than on my computer screen so know that when they say neon, they mean neon! When I placed my order, I received a notification that they were changing warehouses so my package might take a while to be shipped but it was delivered exactly a week after I ordered it so I don’t think that there was a delay. My shirt came rolled up and tied with this twine which I think is super cute! The package also came with these two stickers. I put the blue one on my water bottle. I bought a size small and it is the perfect slouchy cozy size without being too big because sometimes Tshirts kind of swallow me because I’m so short. Before washing, the fabric didn’t really feel like anything special but after I washed it with some fabric softener it became so soft, seriously, I could sleep in it.

I styled the shirt for school with some skinny jeans and cute sneakers. The shoes don’t really match but they were brightly colored and really comfortable, and my feet hurt from a ten mile hike the day before so I wore them anyway lol.

Have you bought anything from Ivory Ella? What did you think?

Have a great day!

5 Essential Makeup Products for Back to School

During the school year I’m constantly torn between wanting to look cute for class and wanting those extra few minutes of sleep. On the days when I opt for sleep I reach for products that are quick to apply and help to streamline my routine. Today I’m sharing with you the products I recommend as well as specific products that I really like.

One: A concealer that matches your skin color

5essentialmakeupitemsforbacktoschool2

With this it is super important that the concealer matches your skin. This isn’t a highlighting concealer or a color corrector. I put just a little bit on any blemishes or problem areas, blend, and I’m good to go in way less time than a full face of foundation would have taken me. I love this one by LA Girl Cosmetics.

Two: A flattering blush

5essentialmakeupitemsforbacktoschool5.JPG

A little bit of blush on your cheeks goes a long way to brighten up your face. Powder blush is quicker to apply (at least for me) but cream blush lasts a really long time and I love this shade. This is the NYX stick blush in orchid.

Three: Mascara

5essentialmakeupitemsforbacktoschool3

Pick a mascara that will achieve the look you want with just one or two coats. Concentrate it near the base of your lashes and it will double as eyeliner too. My favorite is the Maybelline Define-A-Lash, which I have a review of here, but my friend recommended the Rimmel Scandal Eyes and I’ve been liking it a lot. The Define-A-Lash is more lengthening and the Scandal Eyes is more volumizing.

Four: A quick brow routine

5essentialmakeupitemsforbacktoschool4

My favorite way to do my eyebrows is by just swiping some brown mascara through them. It takes me 10 seconds per brow and keeps them defined and in place all day long. I like using the Maybelline Great Lash mascara for my brows.

Five: A tinted lip balm

5essentialmakeupitemsforbacktoschool6.JPG

Lipstick isn’t the quickest thing to apply and can look unflattering when it starts wearing off. A good tinted lip balm can go on without a mirror and will wear off naturally. I’ve had my eye on this lip balm by Fresh for a while and finally bought it. It’s kind of pricey but really nice.

First Day of Senior Year

I can’t believe that today I’m beginning my last year of highschool. So many lasts, so many firsts, and so many decisions will happen in the next several months. I can’t wait to see where this year takes me!

I have loved posting three times a week this summer and I would love to continue that but due to the fact that I will be dramatically busier during the school year than I have been this summer, posting will probably be more irregular. My regular posting days will stay the same and I will do my best to keep new content popping up here on the blog.

Fashion Friday: Back to School Uniform Ideas

This post was originally published on A Maizy Life on March 14, 2016.

Last week I shared my back to school outfit idea, this week I’m sharing a post from last spring with some ideas to look cute even if you are wearing a uniform.

Hello!

I go to a school with a uniform. Its pretty relaxed and we have a lot of freedom on the colors and accessories we can wear, but its still difficult at times to come up with outfits that look good and fit my personal style and are still within the uniform. I have, however come up with a few tricks to make my school outfits cute. I also asked a few of the girls in my classes what their tricks were to share with you so hopefully you can find someone with a similar style to draw from. These tips can be easier or harder depending on how strict your dress code is but I hope you can still find a way to use them:).

tip #1 Choose Colors and Cuts to Flatter

uniform2.JPG

Make sure that your clothes fit well and are colors and styles that complement you body type and coloring. This will do so much to help make your uniform outfits look stylish. For example: I look good in blues and greens, and red is not a flattering color on me at all so I usually go for colors with a blue undertone instead of a red one. I am also really short and it can be hard to find pants that fit me well. I usually have success at Penney’s and Aeropostale

tip #2 Accessorize

Put a cute scarf or necklace over your shirt and it adds instant chic. Infinity scarves are really easy to wear but I like the regular ones because there are so many cute ways to tie them!

tip #3 Have Fun with Your Hair and Makeup

If you are just having no luck with your outfits, put all of the attention on your hair or makeup. Find some cool new hairstyles on Pinterest, or wear and bright lipstick.

I asked some girls at my school how they would describe their style overall and how they try to make their uniform outfits reflect that.

Amber:

How would you describe your style? I have so many ways I’d describe my style it kinda varies from day to day. I’d say it’s kinda comfortable for sure, but almost bohemian at times. The long skirts, and frilly shirts.

How do you fit your style into your school uniform? Scarfs saved my life and also wearing black pants cause really anything looks good with black pants.

Rachel:

How would you describe your style? I like to base my overall style around the 90s’. I love the originality of the style from that era, and so my overall wardrobe is really inspired by that. Other than that main inspiration, I dress however I feel that day.

How do you fit your style into your school uniform? I usually wear black, navy blue, or white polos. Because I wasn’t a fan of the polos school provided, I went out and found white flowy-type shirts with a collar that worked perfect for school and were much more versatile and fit my style a lot better. With these white blouses that I found, I often wear them under solid colored sweaters that I find at thrift shops. To that, I usually wear my go to shoes, which are my white converse, and sometimes I like to add jewelry to enhance the polo neckline and show it off in a way, rather than hiding it. I think in the end it’s all about knowing what you like, what looks good, and playing around with the uniform and your personal style so it can all merge smoothly together in the end

Emma:

How would you describe your style? I would say my personal style is simple, comfy, and occasionally classy.

How do you fit your style into your school uniform? Because my school’s uniform policy is very particular, I struggle with finding outfits that I am comfortable wearing. But most days, I wear basic pants with either a sweatshirt or buttoned up top. Days where I am feeling more dressy, I will wear a scarf with my buttoned up top. Being able to wear simple accessories helps me stay within the dress code while also expressing myself.

Emily:

How do you fit your style into your school uniform? Hmm I love to wear sweaters with scarves, or Polo shirts with scarves or a shawl type thing. I also cheat and wear yoga pants (not leggings) lol and shoes make a big difference. I mostly stick with flats.

Sarah Grace:

How do you fit your style into your school uniform? Hmmm I like to wear scarves and peculiar earrings. Sometimes I wear flower crowns or wear thin strips of fabric braided through my hair. I aso like to wear bracelets. I often will wear a button up shirt over a T shirt with a scarf as well (technically I’m in uniform since it’s a collared shirt)

Annalise:

How would you describe your style? I believe that my personal style is modern but still conservative with solid colors. I don’t really have a specific style, just what I think would look good together or match.

How do you fit your style into your school uniform? I try to definitely go with solid colors or things with collars when picking out a school outfit. It’s hard to pick out something that is boarder line “out of dress code” so I think I try to experiment with a new garment for a couple of school days, and if something isn’t mentioned about it, then I continue to wear it!

Olivia:

How would you describe your style? My personal style is preppy, classy, and occasionally hippie inclined.

How do you fit your style into your school uniform? I find that there are several ways to work with my style within the dress code. Mostly involving layering with a pop of color under my uniform shirt and/or wearing scarves. Shoes and fun hairstyles are also ways I help my outfit out

Sophia:

How do you fit your style into your school uniform? One thing I do is wear a lot of fun bracelets that made mt outdo less boring. Also another cool thing getting solid colored leggings to wear under skirts!

Abbie:

How do you fit your style into your school uniform? Well first off I always like to throw in a nice scarf that will show a little bit of color. I also like to not button up my Oxfords and wear a t-shirt underneath… ( in all honesty im never really in uniform but when I am, that’s what I typically do😛)

I hope this gave you inpsiration to make your school outfits a little less boring!

Back to School: Healthy Lunch Ideas (That are easy to pack!)

Today I have two healthy lunch options. Both are much tastier than a sandwich and better for you than fast food and both are easy to pack and take to school.

Backtoschoollunchideas.jpg

lunchideasforbacktoschool

The first option is soup in a thermos. This is really nice when it starts getting cold outside and you just want to eat cozy food by a crackling fire (or is that just me?). It is a great way to use up leftovers or you can just make a pot of soup and eat it throughout the week. When I don’t have much time to cook I really like Bear Creek soups they have a lot of really delicious soup options that take harldy any time to make.

lunchideasforbacktoschool3.JPG

The second idea is salad in a jar. Put some greens (I really like spinach) in a mason jar, add all your favorite toppings in pretty layers and then add your dressing. You can put the dressing straight into the jar but I don’t like when my salad gets slimy so I like to put it in a smaller jar.

Fashion Friday: Back to School Outfit

I start school in a little over a week so I’ve been thinking and planning some outfits for the start of school. I’m taking all of my classes at my community college instead of my highschool so I get to wear outfits other than my uniform.

backtoschooloutfits

Something that I think would be really cute is to style a summer dress for fall. For this outfit I took this fun floral dress that I made a few summers ago, added some black tights and converse, and pulled my hair into a ponytail.
