Get Ready With Me: The Jungle Book!

On Saturday I went with my sister and a friend to see Disney’s new adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s book, The Jungle Book. Last week I reread the book in preparation for seeing the movie. Yes, I’m the kind of person who won’t watch a movie until I’ve read the book first haha. The movie was incredible, I’ve been super excited about it and it totally lived up to my expectations. It is definitely a must-see. Now, on to how I got ready.

For my base I used the Rimmel matte BB cream in light/medium. I like, but it’s not my favorite, I’ll talk about what I’ve been really liking in next Monday’s post. I applied it with the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I set the BB cream with the Rimmel Stay Matte powder using the Eco Tools powder brush. The BB cream is available here, the sponge here, the powder *here, and the brush *here.

I lightly contoured with the L’Oreal True Match powder in cocoa using the E.L.F. small stipple brush, blended it out with the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer and the same fluffy powder brush that I used with my powder, and highlighted with the Wet’n’Wild Color Icon bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana. The True Match powder is available *here, the bronzer here, the highlighter *here, and the stipple brush here.

I used the Maybelline Great Lash masacara on my brows, curled my lashes, and applied one coat of the Maybelling Define-A-Lash mascara. The Great Lash is available *here, and the Define-A-Lash *here.

I used the NYX Butter Gloss in Angel Food Cake on my lips. It is available *here.

I was going to straighten my hair for this, but I taught swim lessons this morning and my hair didn’t dry in time so I just left it natural.

I wore some denim-look leggings, a light blue long sleeve Tshirt, and some athletic shoes with a navy blue baseball cap. Also, three cheers for spring in Colorado where we can have leaves starting to grow on the trees, and two inches of snow on the ground at the same time.

Have you seen The Jungle Book? What did you think?

Have a great day!

Warm Weather is Here!…For Now

As I type this, the weather has been mostly sunny, with a few cloudy/rainy days here and there, for almost two weeks. Hopefully it will stay warm but for now, I’m enjoying it while I can by breaking out the shorts and warm-weather clothes.

For this look, I paired some flowy, tan shorts with a subtle floral pattern, with a long sleeve navy top and some blue shoes. I don’t love the brown with the tan, but I liked how the two blues looked together.

Have a great day!

Review: Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

I have heard that the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge is the best dupe for the famous Beauty Blender sponge so when it caught my eye at ulta a few weeks ago, I thought I would try it out. It costs $6.99 on Ulta’s website here. I have tried using it with the Rimmel matte BB cream and with the Revlon Colorstay Oily/Combination foundation.

The sponge has a pointy end, curved sides, and a flat side to allow you to apply product to various parts of your face in various ways.

I really like the finish that this sponge gave the BB cream and considering that I usually use my fingers to blend BB cream it was nice that it kept my hands relatively clean. However, it did not blend the Colorstay foundation well at all, and it soaked up quite a bit of the product so it took more product to get the same amount of coverage. I’d like to try it out with a few more face products but so far I will probably not be repurchasing this when it is worn out.

Have you tried this sponge? What did you think?

Have a great day!

Fashion Friday: Layering for Spring

When spring first starts showing up and the snow is a little less heavy and doesn’t hang around as long, I start ditching the thick, cozy sweaters in favor of clothes that aren’t as heavy. It’s not quite time to pull out the summer clothes but winter outfits can be too warm. The look of my outfits doesn’t change much but I put them together differently. For this look, I put a very subtley glittery, tan colored camisole under a black cardigan and paired it with my black boots.

How have you started changing up your outfits for spring?

Have a great day!

My Everyday Makeup Look

Today I’m sharing with you the makeup that I wear most days. I honestly think that most girls could get away with wearing a lot less makeup than they think. For me, every day makeup is about highlighting my natural beauty by drawing attention towards the features that I like and away from the ones that I don’t, rather than totally covering up and recreating my face. I do like experimenting and playing around with different makeup techniques sometimes though. It’s crazy how much it can change the look of your face.

Let’s get into it.

I like to wear a BB cream, or even just concealer on my face. My main concern is redness on my nose, and chin and the occasional break out or blemish so I don’t need a lot of covereage. Right now I’m using the Rimmel Matte BB cream in the shad light/medium.I set it with a translucent powder. I really love the Rimmel Stay Matte. You can get the BB cream here and the powder at Target here.

I like to use blush or bronzer to add a little bit of life and color to my face because I’m pretty pale. I like the Covergirl Cheekers blush in Brick Rose, the ELF lip balm tint in Grapefruit, the WetnWild Color Icon Bronzer in Ticket to Brazil, and the Physician’s Forumla Butter Bronzer. The ELF lip blam tint is not technically for your cheeks but it looks really good applied with a stipple blush to the apples of the cheeks. I bought the Covergirl here, the ELF here, the WetnWild here, and the Physician’s Formula here.

For my brows, I just brush through them with a brow comb and add a swipe of this Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in Brownish Black. It might seem odd to use a mascara on my brows but I think it looks really nice and it literally takes me like 20 seconds to do my brows each day. I bought my Great Lash mascara at Target here.

For my eyes, I curl my lashes and add some lengthening mascara. Sometimes I line my upper lash line with some black liner. I have a review of my favorite mascara here Review: Maybelline Define-A-Lash. I bought my mascara at Target here and my liner on the ELF website here.

I finish my look off with a fun lipstick. Right now I have been loving the Burt’s Bees lipsticks in Fuschia Flood and Blush Basin, the Burt’s Bees lip shimmer in Rhubarb, and the Urban Decay Revolution lipgloss in Failbait.

Now for the finished product!

I love that this looks is really natural and it is super easy and quick for the days when I’d rather sleep a few more minutes than take a lot of time to get ready.

Have a great day!

Redeeming Consumerism: The Refugee Project

I am back with the second post of my redeeming consumerism series. The Refugee Project is a Houston based organization that equips, empowers, and employs refugee women in the Houston area. They teach useful skills to the women they serve and employ them in making knitted and crocheted products that they sell on their online store. %100 of the proceeds from the store go to sustaining the refugee women and providing them with a fair wage. I highly reccomend that you visit their website and read some of the stories of the women that they serve, as well as checking out their social media to see what they are currently up to!

I own these tan boot cuffs and my mom owns These earrings. The earrings are currently sold out but will hopefully be in stock again soon. I styled them for you so you can get an idea of how you can wear some of the pieces from this company.

I have also been eyeing this clutch, I think it would be a fantastic sunglasses case as well as this bracelet, and these fingerless gloves.

These are accessories that you can feel great about purchasing because you know that they are helping women in need to support themselves and their children and are not produced by slaves or people in low-paying, hazardous conditions.

Consumerism does not have to be a negative thing. There is wisodm in moderation but consumers can also have a very powerful voice when we choose to vote with our dollars for things that are meaningful and make the world a better place isntead of fueling mindless buying, and the exploitation of the vulnerable.

Have a great day!

Review: Fresh Soy Face Cleanser + How I Save Money on Beauty Products!

Today I have a review of a facial cleanser that I have been using recently.  It’s the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. It is available at Sephora for $15 for 1.7oz and $38 for 5.1oz. It is on Sephora’s website here. Sephora’s website says that it “instantly whisks away everyday impurities and makeup-even mascara-without stripping the skin of essential moisture.” It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phathalates.

The cleanser has a really nice, fresh, cucumber smell. It removes makeup pretty well but my skin feels the most clean when I remove my makeup first and then let the cleanser really clean my skin. The consistency is kind of milky, it foams a little bit but not very much. I would give this cleanser 5 stars out of 5.

The only downside to this cleanser is the price. The cost is quite a bit more than I would like to spend on skincare. One way that I have found to buy high-end skincare and makeup products without spending a huge amount of money is Swagbucks. Swagbucks is a site that allows you to earn points, called swagbucks, by doing searches, watching videos, and completing tasks, that you can then redeem for gift cards. Swagbucks also has a rebate program that lets you earn swagbucks by shopping at your favorite stores online. When I have a skin care or makeup product that I want to buy, I wait until I have enough swagbucks to redeem for gift cards in the amount I need and then I shop through Swagbucks’ rebate program and earn even more swagbucks. By doing this, I can get expensive beauty products for a few to zero dollars out of pocket and get a rebate that is usually worth about a dollar. I really reccomend that you try Swagbucks out. If you do, I would love it if you would use my referral like here*.

Have you tried this cleanser? What is your trick for saving money on beauty products?

Have a great day!
